Western Ranch Supply’s story began in 1953 as a small steel building distributor in Billings, Montana. It was officially incorporated in 1954, and just a few years later — in 1957 — Ray Frank and Tom Warsinske became partners at the downtown location on North 13th Street. What started as a steel business quickly evolved as Ray and Tom recognized a greater need in the ranching community. They saw opportunity not just in buildings, but in serving the everyday needs of farmers and ranchers.
By 1959, that vision had fully taken shape. A complete animal health department was added, and Western Ranch Supply became deeply rooted in farm and ranch retail. The manufacture and sale of horse trailers soon became the company’s most profitable division, further strengthening its reputation across the region.
Growth continued in 1962 with the addition of a second location in Great Falls. In 1965, Ray Frank became sole owner and remained a steady force behind the company’s continued success. In 1998, ownership transitioned to Keith Robinson, Rob Erickson, and Shayne Vandivort, but Ray’s presence and decades of experience remained an important part of the business. In 2006, the Great Falls store moved into a newly constructed facility on River Drive North, reflecting the company’s ongoing growth.
A new chapter began in June 2013 with the opening of the West End Billings location — a 30,000-square-foot facility featuring a spacious showroom and a three-acre equipment lot along I-90 at the Zoo Drive exit. The expansion allowed Western Ranch Supply to broaden its offerings, adding a full hardware department and a distinctive clothing department featuring both Western and contemporary styles for men and women. Designed with working customers in mind, the location offers ample parking for trucks and trailers and a welcoming space for the ranching community.
Today, Western Ranch Supply serves customers throughout Montana, Wyoming, and western North Dakota with a knowledgeable team that understands the demands of agricultural life. From vaccines and feed to fencing, livestock equipment, tack, show supplies, and more, the focus remains the same as it was in the beginning: supporting the people who keep the West running. With a comprehensive catalog mailed each spring and fall and an online store available year-round, Western Ranch Supply continues to blend tradition, service, and forward-thinking growth — just as it has for more than 70 years.
